Together We Dream

Co-creating hope during the pandemic

When ASAP! summer campers couldn’t be together for the first time in 21 years, we came up with a model to keep youth connected through some of the hardest and most uncertain times in their lives. Through collaborative muraling in two different cities, they shared messages of positivity and power.

We created a video which walked campers through an artistic process to imagine and illustrate their dream of the future. They received their very own bucket of art supplies, which included a journal and utensils for illustrating their ideas.

Campers arrived at the mural site with 2-color illustrations of their dream for the future.

Over two weeks, each camper filled in one of the interlocking shapes with their artwork.

Overwhelmingly, artists expressed messages of hope, love, peace, beauty, and togetherness.

“The thought behind it is peace… I usually paint when a lot is going through my mind. It relieves me.”
